BU Faces Tough Competition on Day One of Bryan Clay Invitational

Day one of the Bryan Clay Invitational is in the books as BU prepares for day two on Saturday.

AZUSA, Calif. --- The Eagles took to the Cougar Athletic Stadium for the second meet-in-a-row as they wrapped up day one of the annual Bryan Clay Invitational. 

In a meet that draws incredible talent from all across the country, BU had the opportunity to face off against some of track and field's best athletes.

That was the case in the women's 100 hurdles prelims as Kiersten Huitt got set in her blocks ready to compete against Team USA and New Balance athlete Sydney McLaughlin. Huitt claimed the final spot in prelims to qualify for the final heat in the 100 hurdles. 

In the 400 prelims, BU qualified both Natasha Currence and Alexis Madrid-Cordero. Currence is seeded sixth in the final heat while Madrid-Cordero is seeded eighth as they prepare for the final heat on Saturday. 

In the men's 100 Chase Williams qualified for finals with a prelims time of 10.63 as did Jahquez Durham with a time of 11.11. The duo will look to compete in the 100 finals on Saturday. 

Emily Alvarez qualified for 400 hurdles finals with a time of 1:00.32 as did Kiersten Huitt with a time of 1:06.16. Alvarez and Huitt will compete in the 400 hurdles final heat on Saturday as they are seeded sixth and eighth. 

Abigail Buckley qualified for the 200 dash finals recording a time of 25.63 in prelims giving her the chance to compete in the final heat. For the men, Chase Williams ran the 200 in 22 seconds flat, also qualifying him for the final heat. 

In the field, Troy Yarter took first place in javelin with a mark of 53.51m while Anna Maumalanga finished in the top five of the women's discus with a mark of 42.08m. Field events will continue on Saturday as high jump, pole vault and triple jump will all take place.
