The Streak Continues

Biola extends their win streak to six as they clinch the PacWest SoCal Pod Champion title after defeating CUI 3-1.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- On a night where the Eagles celebrated their lone senior Bekah Roth, Biola Volleyball clinched the PacWest SoCal Pod Championship as they defeated Concordia 3-1. The win improves BU to 5-2, 4-1 and extends their win streak to six as they prepare for their final match of the season at APU on April 22.

Raegan Tjepkema set a school record for most aces in a match with seven during the Battle of the Eagles. Tjepkema broke the record of five aces in a match, which had been accomplished three times by the Eagles and most recently on October, 19, 2019.

Head Coach Aaron Seltzer continues to be proud of how hard the Eagle fight day in and day out. "Raegan did a great job serving tonight, we got on a couple of really good runs with her and she was a big impact," said Seltzer. "It was good to see Bekah grind in her last home match as shes been an important role player this season."

For the sixth straight match, BU had attackers record double-digit kills. Tonight, it was Dani Bryant leading the Eagles with 12 kills followed by Madison Beebe with 10 kills. Abby Brewster also added eight kills on the match for BU.

As usual, Vanessa Garcia and Abby Brewster did a fantastic job at setting up their attackers. The duo recorded 16 assists each on the night while also coming through on defense as Garcia recorded seven digs while Brewster added ten.

The Eagle's defense continued to shine as Sami Hover added 18 digs to increase her career dig total to 1,747. Tjepkema led the team in blocks with four, she was closely followed by Bryant with three and senior Bekah Roth with two. In her final home match, Roth recorded seven kills, two blocks and one dig.

Biola dropped a back-and-forth set one to Concordia 25-21. The good Eagles held the lead 21-19 before the bad Eagles went on a six point run to steal the opening match. BU didn't focus on the first set for long as they swept the next three sets 25-12, 25-20, 25-15 to take the match.

In set two, BU took advantage of a four point run followed by a six point run to hold CUI to only 12 points in the set. CUI took the early advantage in set three as they scored the first four points of the set. Being down early didn't phase Biola as they took set three with a score of 25-20.

In the final set of the match BU held CUI under 20 points again as they took advantage of an eight point run highlighted by Tjepkema's aces. BU finished out the final set with a four point run to shut the door and sweep the Battle of the Eagles matchup this season.

Biola is back in action for their final game of the season on April 22, as they head to Azusa Pacific.
