Eagles Down Cougars in Five

Biola ends the season with a 3-2 win over Azusa Pacific.

AZUSA, Calif. --- In its season finale, Biola was able to fight back from a 2-1 deficit to take down Azusa Pacific 3-2. The Eagles won the fourth set to force a fifth set, which they won 15-11.

The Eagle's offense was led by Raegan Tjepkema who led the team in kills with 15. Dani Bryant followed with 10 kills of her own as the duo helped lead BU to victory.

Abby Brewster and Marissa Price connected with their hitters for 39 combined assists, Brewster totaled for 21 while Price totaled for 18.The Eagles combined for seven aces as Brooke Hales, Raegan Tjepkema and Sami Hover each contributed with two a piece.

Deffensively, Sami Hover continues to chase 2,000 career digs, as she added 20 digs for a total of 1,767 career digs. Abby Brewster and Abigail Copeland recorded four blocks each at the net while Bryant added three of her own. 

The Eagles got off to a strong start, taking set one from the Cougars 25-22. The opening set was a battle as both teams seemed to trade points the entire game. APU went on to take both sets two and three with scores of 25-14 and 25-22. 

It was win or go home for the Eagles, as they had to win set four to force a fifth set and have a shot at taking the match. The Eagles started the fourth set with a 10-2 lead, putting them in prime position to force the fifth and deciding set. 

Tjepkema led the Eagle's hot start in the fourth set, finding the gap in APU's defense for three kills in the 9-10 run. 

APU fought its way back into the game as the Cougars managed to come within three points of Biola with a 17-14 score, forcing Head Coach Aaron Seltzer to call a timeout. 

BU responded well coming out of the timeout as the Eagles won the next three points to give them a 20-14 lead. The Eagles added four kills from four players to seal the victory and force a fifth set. 

In the deciding set, Biola was the first to score five, as the Eagles took a 5-2 advantage. APU was able to tie the set at five and proceeded to take its first lead of the set, 7-5.

A timely Tjepkema ace and Bryant kill tied the game at 8-8. Biola would eventually pull away and take an 11-8 lead before taking the deciding set 15-11.

The win improves Biola to 6-2, 5-1 in PacWest play with the only loss in conference play coming from Point Loma on March 17.
