BU Nabs Win Number Eight

A Thursday matchup between Biola and Westmont resulted in a 6-1 victory for the Eagles.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The BU men's tennis team moved to 8-5 on the season with a home victory over Westmont on Thursday. The match heavily favored the Eagles, who took down the Warriors for the second time in the last week, winning by a decisive 6-1 margin.

The momentum belonged to Biola from the opening serve, as each doubles matchup was led by BU duos. The first flight also finished first with Alexei Prokopchuk and Antonio Rosales Varona teaming up for a 6-1 win.

Sebastian Herrera and Erik Martinez grabbed the doubles point for BU with a 6-3 victory in the No. 2 spot. Martinez connected on his 10th-straight doubles win, while keeping his doubles record in 2021 unblemished.

Three straight-set victories in singles play followed to clinch the match for the Eagles. Prokopchuk notched the fourth and match-winning point for BU from the No. 1 spot, closing out a 6-3, 6-1 rout.

Rosales Varona and Alex Sedeno also made quick work of their solo contests. Neither player gave up more than two games in either set, while Rosales Varona even posted a 6-0 scoreline in the opening set of his match.

On the sixth court, Andres Meneses grinded out a comeback win for his eighth singles triumph of the season. The lefty fell 0-6 in set number one but evened the match with a 7-6 second set. Meneses completed the comeback, winning the third set by way of a tiebreaker to 10 (10-3).

The Eagles will be back in action at the Biola Tennis Center on Saturday in a match against Point Loma.
