BU Dominates Saturday Matchup

Biola men’s tennis posted a perfect 7-0 mark against Colorado Mesa on Saturday.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola returned to the winning column on Saturday in a home match against Colorado Mesa. From start to finish the Eagles displayed determination to complete the 7-0 victory over the visiting Mavericks. 

"The guys bounced back strong from a tough loss yesterday," said head coach David Goodman. "I was proud of how they responded."

Erik Martinez and Antonio Rosales Varona opened the day with an excellent showing for BU, netting a 6-1 win in their doubles match. Isaac Cordova and Alex Sedeno followed closely with a 6-3 victory to secure the first point for Biola. Martinez picked up his fourth-consecutive doubles win on Saturday, including his third-straight with Rosales Varona as his partner.

Rosales Varona maintained the momentum as the match shifted into singles, pitching a shutout in his matchup. The sophomore grabbed his first win from the No. 2 spot, posting back-to-back 6-0 sets.

The Eagles' winning trend continued with each singles match falling in favor of BU. Alexei Prokopchuk notched the clinching win in straight-sets from the No. 1 spot.

Andres Meneses finished the night with grit, overcoming a loss in the first set. The lefty responded with a 6-0 set and a 10-8 tiebreaker to score the match-ending comeback, securing the clean slate for Biola, 7-0.

The Biola men's tennis squad evened its overall record to 3-3 on the year and will return to action on Thursday in a home competition against Azusa Pacific.
