Eagles Land Second-Straight Win

The BU men’s tennis team took down Chapman on Friday, 5-2, marking back-to-back victories for the squad.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- A sunny Friday afternoon brought Biola's fourth win of the season, as the Eagles defeated NCAA Division III Chapman University. BU nabbed the doubles point and the first three singles points to clinch the win and finish off the 5-2 victory.

Head Coach David Goodman was impressed with his team's performance and was encouraged by the play of Alexei Prokopchuk, "Alexei played his best match of this year, which gives us confidence moving forward. We are starting to play better as a team."

Prokopchuk stepped up in the No. 1 spot for BU, collecting a straight-sets victory. The win gave Biola the first singles point of the day, as the sophomore did not give up a game in the second set.

The Ukraine native teamed up with Antonio Rosales Varona to also make an impact in the doubles competitions. The duo was the first to finish, posting a 6-2 set. Sebastian Herrara and Erik Martinez finished off their doubles match, 6-3, to give Biola the doubles point for the match.

Rosales Varona provided the match-clinching point from the No. 2 spot for the Eagles. The sophomore cruised in his matchup (6-1, 6-3) for his second singles win of the year.

In the last match of the day, Alex Sedeno survived a third set tiebreaker to improve his season record to 4-1.

Biola will be back in action at home on Saturday, taking on Cal Lutheran at 1:00 pm.
