LA MIRADA, Calif. --- BU Men's tennis dropped the match to Hawaii Hilo 4-0 Friday afternoon at the Biola Tennis Center.
The Eagles (2-3) put up a hard fought battle in doubles play, but Hawaii Hilo's Matin Soukal and Alessio Demichelis held off Alexei Proopkochuk and Sebastian Herrera 6-4 for the deciding win. The Vulcans' (2-1) seized the doubles point by capturing two closely contested matches.
Hawaii Hilo earned early wins on court one and two to set the tone in doubles play. BU's Erik Martinez and Antonio Varuna won the lone doubles set for the Eagles, 7-5, in a back-and-forth match against Hawaii Hilo's Joshua Liu and Chun En Wu.
The Vulcans carried their doubles success into singles play, accumulating the first three match wins on courts two (6-4, 6-1), six (6-4, 6-1) and five (6-3, 7-5) to end the Eagles' play for the day. As both teams were playing to clinch, courts one, three and four went unfinished as Hawaii Hilo swept the first three singles contests.
BU will get right back into competition Saturday, March 6 against Colorado Mesa. Last time the two teams faced off, Colorado Mesa defeated Biola 4-3. The Eagles are on the hunt to pick up their first win from Mavericks.
