Fighting for First Win

BU drops the one run decision at PLNU with a final score of 4-3

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Biola suffered a one run loss to Point Loma in game one of today's doubleheader action with a final score of 4-3. The Eagles look forward to drawing even during game two at America's most scenic ballpark in sunny San Diego.

Although BU suffered the loss, today's performance is a big improvement. The Eagles did not give up a big inning and the pen was solid through three innings.

Head Coach Jeff Calhoon liked what he saw from his team on the diamond today. "Guys were making big plays in the field and in the box, we're getting close to putting all the pieces together," said Calhoon. "Our guys put up a good fight, and were going to come right back at them in game two." good day for Cruz at the plate and in the field.

The Sea Lions struck first driving in two runs in the bottom of the first off starter Brayden Englert. Englert would go six innings for BU only allowing three earned runs while striking out two.

The pitching reamined solid out of the pen. AJ Otriz inherited a bases loaded jam and proved ready for the moment as he did not allow a run to score and kept BU within one.

Feeding off the energy from Ortiz, the Eagles loaded the bases in the top of the eighth. RobertAnthony Cruz made a perfect read on a passed ball to score from third base, tying the game 3-3.

Cruz made big plays on both sides of the ball for BU today going 2-3 with a homer and 2 RBI. Cruz also flashed the leather at second with a few beautiful plays to keep BU in the game. Third baseman Jacob Portaro went 2-4 while scoring one run.

After the first two batters reached in the bottom of the ninth with no outs, Callhoon called on the pen. With runners on first and second, a passed ball moved both runners up 90 feet. In their next at bat, PLNU walked off with a single, scoring the go ahead run from third to end the game.
