Four Not Enough

Biola drops PacWest opener to PLNU, 3-1

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball opened up PacWest play on Wednesday night as they hosted Point Loma in Chase Gymnasium. Although BU secured game one 25-16, the Sea Lions would come back to win the next three games with scores of 21-25, 23-25 and 25-17.

The Eagles started off game one on a roll as they held the advantage the entire set and did not trail Point Loma. Biola tallied 12 kills in set one, with seven assists coming from senior setter Vanessa Garcia

PLNU responded quickly in game two, stealing the first three points from Biola in what was a very close matchup. The Sea Lions would go on to win the game with a final score of 25-21 as BU could not take the lead.

Game three was even more of a nailbiter as BU lost by only two points as the game was much more evenly matched than game one. During the back-and-forth set, the Sea Lions took a two point lead following an ace to make the score 7-5.

With the score tied at 20, both teams would continue to trade points until PLNU was able to secure points 23 and 24. Down but not out, Biola came within one point from PLNU with a kill from Bekah Roth set up by Garcia for a score of 24-23. The Sea Lions returned the favor by scoring the set point and taking the match lead 2-1.

Game four had a similar score to game one, but opposite results on both sides of the net. Point Loma went on a five point rally to give them the early seven point advantage over BU. Although it was a hard fought battle, the Eagles were overpowered and lost the game 25-17 and the match 3-1.

Biola is back in action Wednesday, March 24 as they head to Irvine to take on CUI in their first PacWest road match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. and live stats and video can be found at cuieagles.com. For updates check athletics.biola.edu.
