LA MIRADA, Calif. --- BU Men's Tennis collected their fourth straight victory today as they took down Western New Mexico University at the Biola Tennis Center. The win improves the Eagles to 6-3 on the season. Both teams played to clinch the match today resulting in an unfinished doubles game and two unfinished singles games.
Head Coach
David Goodman continues to rely on the depth of his men's team, especially in singles play. "Being able to rely on those guys at four, five and six has made things a lot easier," said Coach Goodman. Goodman has also been impressed with senior
Erik Martinez. "Erik has been really good for us in both singels and doubles this season," said Goodman.
Biola started off the doubles play strong with Andres Meneses and Alex Sedeno securing the first victory for the Eagles, taking down their opponents 6-3. Erik Martinez and Sebastian Herrera secured the second doubles victory 6-2, resulting in an unfinished game from Alexei Prokopchuk and Antonio Varona in what was a back and forth match tied at 5 prior to being called.
Erik Martinez continued to be dominant as the match moved on over to singles play. Martinez made quick work of his opponent with two 6-0 victories giving BU the first singles point of the day.
Sedeno mirrored Martinez's results in his first set, taking down Erik Dallman 6-0. Dallman did not allow himself to be blanked twice as Martinez took set two 6-2 for the victory.
BU kept the momentum going as Meneses secured the first three points against WNM's Jace Crawford. Meneses would go one to take the game with scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
The remainder of the matches on courts one and two were unfinished. Prior to BU clinching the match, Prokopchuck has the advantage after winning set on 6-2 and nearly taking the second 5-0. Antonio Varona's game also was halted after he secured set one 6-2 and had the early advantage in set two with a score of 2-1.
Biola returns to PacWest play on Saturday, March 20 as they take on Azusa Pacific at the Biola Tennis Center. Doubles are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. For updates check athletics.biola.edu
