RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- A two-day weekend meet at Cal Baptist wrapped up on Saturday for the Biola swimming and diving squads. The women took fifth behind great performances from Grace Kling, while the men nabbed third.

The CBU Lancers Winter Invitational was a showcase of top-tier programs, featuring multiple NCAA Division I schools and distinguished DII teams. Biola women's swimming and diving came out with 371 points, while finishing in fifth amongst a field of eight. The men's squad tallied 681 points on the way to third of six total teams.

Kling showed her strength in the breaststroke, dominating in the 100 and 200 events. The sophomore cruised in the 100yd breaststroke, winning the event and logging a time of 1:03.92. The stellar time and placement gave the Eagles 20 points. The speedster was not done though, jumping back in for the 200yd breaststroke. Kling posted a time of 2:17.57, while taking second place in the race.

Jacob Haaksma delivered with his breaststroke events, offering a fifth place showing in the 100 and a third place performance in the 200. The freshman notched a 58.12 to tie for fifth, while cruising in for a time of 2:06.88 in the 200. The 100 breaststroke featured an Eagle in sixth place, as well with James Gamette shaving two seconds off his seeding time to come in one place behind Haaksma.

Multiple relays delivered top-five showings on Saturday, including the men's 400 and 800 freestyle relays. In the 400 and 800, BU took third and logged times of 3:09.26 and 6:58.53, respectively. The BU women's 400 free relay was hot off the blocks, turning in a fifth place finish with a mark of 3:32.47.

Liza Parahnevich stepped up in the finals for her events, nabbing fourth in the 400 individual medley and the 200 backstroke. The Brea, California native improved on her seeding races by a total of 13 seconds between the two events to propel her to a pair of top-five finishes. 

The men's 100 and 200 freestyle events had Tanner Smith in the thick of it. Smith logged a time of 46.56 in the 100 and 1:41.22 in the 200. His top finish was in the 200, as he grabbed third place. 

Biola put two swimmers in the top-seven in the men's 200 butterfly. Nathan Schwantes swam for a fifth finish and a mark of 1:54.97, while Patrick Waggoner followed at 1:55.94 for seventh.

Eliana Cote and Luke Bartruff carried the diving duties for Biola on Saturday. Cote nabbed 22nd and 23rd with scores of 163.75 and 133.65 in the 1 meter and 3 meter dives, respectively. Bartruff competed in a smaller field, landing in fifth in the 1 meter dive with a score of 94.35. In the 3 meter event, the freshman took fifth with a score of 105.75.

Biola will be back in action following the Christmas break at Pomona-Pitzer on January 7.
