Hase Header Wins It

The Eagles were victorious in overtime on Saturday, thanks to a golden goal from Jess Hase.

LA MIRADA --- A tight matchup needed overtime to determine a winner on Saturday afternoon. Overtime lasted less than a minute, as a BU corner resulted in a golden goal from Jess Hase. The game-winner gave BU a 2-1 victory over the visiting Dominican Penguins.

Saturday heroics began in the second half, as the Eagles were staring down a 1-0 deficit with 20 minutes remaining in the contest. Abby Chavez made a move inside and drew a foul for a BU free kick to give BU some momentum.

Halie Jamir stepped up for the set piece and sent a rolling shot towards the goal. The Penguin wall deflected the ball to the right and straight to a running Katelyn Penner. The midfielder easily cleaned up with the equalizing tally.

Both teams threatened with late second half opportunities but neither team could connect on a score, leading to overtime.

A 10:00 minute overtime ensued with the first goal scored ending the contest. Biola only needed about 45 seconds to finish the match.

Quickly, the Eagles pushed the ball up the field following the kickoff. The offensive pressure led to a corner kick for the host squad. Once again, Jamir was at the forefront of the opportunity, lofting the corner into the box. Hase used all of her 5-11 frame to head in the game-winner.  The BU defender tallied her first goal of the season in dramatic fashion.

From the onset of the match, it was a tightly contested affair. Dominican was the aggressor in the opening minutes, logging three corners, a shot on-goal and a shot off the crossbar in a rapid series. BU did well protecting the net and maintaining the 0-0 tie. Near the end of the first half, Biola made a solid run at the goal, launching four shots in the span of a minute, forcing three-straight saves from the Penguin keeper.

The visitors found their mark in the 56th minute, gaining the first lead of the day by either team. The DUC attack sent a cross to the back post, before passing the ball back to the middle for the shot and score.

For the third time this year, Jamir dished out multiple assists in a single contest. The midfielder has been dominant with her set pieces and leads the team by a wide margin with seven assists in 2021.

BU's bounce back and overtime 2-1 win marked the team's fifth win at home this season. Four of the five victories have been nail-biting one-goal triumphs for Biola.

The Eagles will play at home in their season finale against Azusa Pacific next Saturday at 4:00 pm.
