Tune-up Game

The Eagles took on NCAA DI San Diego State on Monday in a road exhibition.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Biola and San Diego State opened the 2021-22 season with an exhibition on Monday night in the Viejas Arena in San Diego. Amiah Simmons led the Eagles with 13 points, as BU fell in the contest, 79-52.

For the first time since 1983, Biola took on the NCAA DI Aztecs but this game did not count towards either team's overall record.

The reserves brought the offense for Biola on Monday night. The bench piled on 31 points or 60.0 percent of the team's total.

Sixth-man Natasa Radovic was one of two Eagles to cross the 10-point threshold. Through 22 minutes of action, Radovic tacked on 11 points and eight rebounds The guard was the most efficient Eagle on the court, going four-for-eight from the field for a 50.0 field goal percentage.

BU's top scorer, Simmons knocked down four shots and went perfect at the line with four free throws. The freshman shined in her first collegiate action, pacing the team with the 13 points.

Biola started fast in the contest, scoring back-to-back buckets to open with a 5-0 lead. Jordan Rabe got things going with a trey, before Autumn Hopson added a layup off a San Diego State turnover.

A 15-0 run for the host squad flipped the script and gave the Aztecs a double-digit lead that would hold through the final buzzer.

The third quarter belonged to the Eagles though, who cut down on the deficit with an 18-11 advantage in the period. The Biola offense went seven-for-17 from the floor and three-for-nine from distance to post its highest scoring output in a quarter. On the defensive side, BU kept the Aztec shooters off-balance to keep them 0-6 on three-point attempts.

An equal, 12-12, fourth quarter led to a 79-52 final score in favor of San Diego State.

BU will continue its trek through DI competition on Wednesday, competing against Loyola Marymount in an exhibition at 7:00 pm.
