Fire Away

Halie Jamir led the Eagles to an explosive 4-2 victory over Fresno Pacific.

FRESNO, Calif. — BU women's soccer came out with offensive firepower on Saturday. The Eagles (4-5-1, 2-1-0 PW) took care of business on the road, defeating Fresno Pacific (0-9-0, 0-4-0 PW), 4-2.

Halie Jamir had her foot in three of the four scores for BU. The midfielder assisted on the first two tallies of the contest. Jamir also tacked on a score of her own with a dazzling free kick from 30 yards out.

The impressive output from the offense marked the first four-goal match for Biola since the 2017 season. The BU squad hit the high goal count in the NCCAA final against Indiana Wesleyan on December 2.

The Biola attack struck first early on in the match on Saturday. Christine Maranville got the opportunity started with a runaway one-on-one with the FPU goalie. A save reset the attack but BU maintained the momentum.

With the ball still in Biola's attacking third, Jamir played the ball out wide to Mason Stansberry. The BU forward dribbled into the box and put her shot inside the back post for her first score of the season.

In the 32nd minute, Biola was on the attack again, as Penner drew a foul to earn a free kick just inside midfield. Jamir took the free kick and sent it into the box for it to bounce right back to her. Handling the rebound, Jamir passed the ball back inside to Jazmin Montalvo right up the gut, who connected on a clear shot for the score.

The 2-0 halftime lead was not enough for Biola, as the squad kept the pressure on. Four minutes into the second half a set piece created a third goal for BU. Once again, Jamir stepped up to deliver a spectacular tally on the free kick. From 30 yards out, the junior launched a shot to the top shelf and past the goalie for the score.

The Sunbirds briefly cut down on their deficit with a tally in the 54th minute but BU did not let the momentum stay in the host squad's favor.

Biola quickly responded with a counter attack led by Frances Andrade. The midfielder made a few nifty moves before playing a beautiful through ball to Montalvo. The freshman had just the goalie to beat and did so for her second goal of the match.

FPU mounted one more comeback effort but it was all for naught, as the Eagles completed the 4-2 triumph.

Despite the lopsided scoreline, Fresno Pacific led the match with 14 shots compared to 10 from BU. The Eagles were better at making their shots count with eight shots on-goal compared to seven from the host squad.

Biola will head to Hawaii for its next three contests, as it begins its trip at Chaminade next Saturday at 3:00 pm.
