Eagles Stumble in Five

Biola Volleyball opens Hawaii road trip with a hard fought 3-2 loss to Hawaii Hilo.

HILO, Hawaii --- For the second straight match, Biola Volleyball (7-6, 3-2) battled to force a five-set match but eventually fell just short, picking up the loss (17-25, 25-17, 27-29, 25-22, 10-15) to Hawaii Hilo (9-2, 6-1) at Vulcan Gym on Wednesday evening.

Hawaii Hilo's win-streak reaches five matches as Wednesday's match also marks the first contest and first win inside Vulcan Gym this season for the top-team in the PacWest.

The Vulcans and Eagles traded wins in the first two sets, with identical scores of 25-17 in both sets. In the third set, Hawaii Hilo rallied from a six-point deficit to tie the match 22-22. The Vulcans would go on to claim the third set comeback for a 2-1 advantage over Biola.

The Eagles were able to secure the fourth set to force a fifth and deciding set for the second-straight match. In the deciding set, the Vulcans built off an 8-6 lead and shut the door for the victory.

On the attack, Biola was led by the duo of Madison Beebe and Dani Bryant with 16 kills each. Beebe added 20 digs to her night while Sami Hover continued to hold down the back row as she led the team with 25 digs.

Bryant converted on half of her attempts for an impressive .500 hitting percentage. Her 16 kills marked a new career-high for the redshirt-freshman.

Vanessa Garcia tallied 28 assists and Marissa Price chipped in with 16 assists of her own.

Behind the service line, six Eagles logged an ace while only five service errors were made.

Biola now shifts its attention to the final two games of the road trip where the Eagles will face-off against Hawaii Pacific and No. 24 Chaminade on October 8 and October 9 respectively.
