Two Goals Too Many

The BU women’s soccer squad were tripped up by Hawaii Hilo on Thursday afternoon, falling 2-0.

HILO, Hawaii --- A three-match trip in the Hawaiian islands came to an end on Thursday for the Eagles. Biola (5-7-1, 3-3-0 PW) struggled to get its offense moving, coming up short against Hawaii Hilo, 2-0.

The hosting Vulcans (9-3-0, 6-1-0 PW) jumped out to the lead in the afternoon bout, scoring in the seventh minute of the contest. Daelenn Tokunaga gave UHH the early lead, as she leads the PacWest with 11 goals on the season.

Biola's offense managed to log two shots in each half. Katelyn Penner was aggressive in the opening minutes, sending in both shots of the first half for BU, putting one on-goal in the ninth minute to go for the equalizer.

Leah Kakigi and Halie Jamir each offered their own attempts at eliminating the deficit but ultimately came up empty. The duo notched shots on-goal towards opposite posts but both were stopped by the Vulcan keeper.

Hawaii Hilo added an insurance score in the second half to make Biola's comeback route more difficult. The 2-0 advantage for UHH held through the waning seconds for the eventual final score.

BU keeper Briana Ruelas did her best to stave off Vulcan attacks, totaling a career-best seven saves on Thursday.

Biola will return to La Mirada for its next match, battling Concordia next Thursday at 4:00 pm.
