The Eagles never took their foot off the gas, tacking on a 3-1 triumph on Monday against Hawaii Pacific.

WAIPAHU, Hawaii — An early goal from the Sharks did not deter Biola, as the Eagles posted three unanswered scores in the 3-1 win. The Monday victory in Hawaii improved BU's record to 5-6-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the PacWest.

The Sharks (2-7-1, 1-2-1 PW) shot out of the gate, posting a goal four and a half minutes into the contest. A missed shot from Christine Maranville turned into a fevered counter attack from HPU that resulted in the score.

Both offenses were looking for opportunities early on Saturday.  Biola opened up the match with eight shots in the first half with six shots coming in from Hawaii Pacific.

Abby Chavez got home in the 22nd minute, evening the match at one apiece. Halie Jamir set up the sophomore forward with a pass down the center of the pitch, helping Chavez tally her second goal of 2021 with her left foot.

The second half began with a 1-1 tie and the hosting Sharks on the hunt for the lead. Through 33 minutes of action, HPU sent in seven shots but came up empty.

Biola's first shot of the half led to the game-winner, as Chavez logged another shot on-goal but was denied. The HPU keeper recorded the save but could not corral the ball. The deflection ended up at the feet of Chloe Diaz, who cleaned up the opportunity for Biola. The first goal of the season for Diaz gave BU the 2-1 advantage, which would hold until the end of the match.

Even with the lead, the Biola offense was not done going to work. In the final minute of the contest, Jazmin Montalvo used her electric speed to get behind the HPU defense and deliver a breakaway score for the Eagles.

Briana Ruelas picked up the win in goal for BU, nabbing a pair of saves in her fourth appearance in 2021. The 3-1 victory marked the first win for Ruelas this season.

Biola will complete its road trip in Hawaii with a match against Hawaii Hilo on Thursday at 3:00 pm PST.
