Eagles Falter on the Road

Biola volleyball was unable to get momentum going in Irvine, falling 3-0 to Concordia.

IRVINE, Calif. --- After picking up the win against Concordia in its home opener, Biola volleyball fell 3-0 (19-25, 17-25, 11-25) to Concordia at CU arena on Saturday evening.

Biola (9-7, 5-3 PW) was neck and neck with Concordia (10-5, 5-3 PW) in the first set. BU led early on but was down by only one at 11-12, before a four-point run gave CUI all the momentum it needed as the Eagles went on to sweep BU in three sets.

A bright spot for Biola was the ever reliable Sami Hover, who continues to leave her mark on the PacWest Conference. With her 18 digs tonight, Hover needs only 62 more digs to tie Point Loma's Christin Fisher (2016) for third place on the PacWest all-time digs leaderboard.

The Eagle offense was led by senior Vanessa Garcia, who recorded 17 assists and three kills on three attempts for BU. Garcia continued to add to her season total, as the graduate student now sits at 452 assists on the 2021 season.

Offensively, the Eagles struggled, recording only 28 kills in the match. Concordia limited Biola to nine and eight kills in the second and third sets respectively, holding Biola to a season low .107 hitting percentage.

The Eagles look forward to the opportunity to bounce back from tonight's tough loss with eight-straight home matches starting on October 21. Biola will open its eight-game home stand against ART U at Chase Gymnasium.
