LA MIRADA, Calif. --- With the American Baseball Coaches Association's announcement on Tuesday, Head Coach Jeff Calhoon's baseball team became the third Biola sports program in the last two weeks to earn an academic award from its respective coaching association.

After the men's and women's track and field teams were leading recipients of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, Biola Baseball was one of the 54 NCAA DII teams to garner an ABCA Team Academic Excellence award after earning a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above during the 2019-20 academic year. The Eagles previously had 22 Academic All-PacWest honorees from the baseball team as Biola led the PacWest in total recipients for the third-straight year with 218.

"I'm proud of our student-athletes staying steadfast to our goals through a spring filled with adversity," said Coach Calhoon.

Four other PacWest teams were also on the ABCA's Team Academic Excellence list. But the thing that might be most impressive about the Biola Boys' recognition is how their academic accomplishments paired with top-ranked success on the diamond in 2020. 

The No. 8 Eagles were one of just three teams ranked in the top-10 of the final NCAA DII poll to appear on the ABCA's academic award list. The other two were No. 5 Lindenwood and No. 9 Dixie State. 

This was also the first time that Biola Baseball earned an ABCA Team Academic Excellence award in the university's NCAA era.
