Biola baseball summer update for May 2019

And Away They Go

Biola Baseball student-athletes start their summer ball over the next few weeks, playing in six states.

May 31, 2019

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- As quickly as the 2019 spring season ended, college baseball revs right back up at Eagles Diamond and across the country over the next few weeks with the start of wood-bat summer leagues.

The Biola Eagles will be represented in six states this summer, placing multiple players in Alaska, Kansas, Washington and California, of course, while alumni Zach LaBounty serving as one of the coaches for the So. Cal Shepherds team that will play their home games on Biola's  campus. Among other players on the Shepherds roster, LaBounty will be coaching incoming Biola infielder Gabe Huante.

For the second-straight year, the Eagles will be sending three men to the Athletes in Action team in Chinook, Alaska. Honus Kindreich will be returning to the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinnoks after a great summer in 2018 and will be joined by Brandon Cody and Joey Leavitt. And Biola will have two more men on the Wenatchee Applesox roster in Ryan Gallegos and Larson Kindreich. Joey Magro and Troy Stainbrook played on that team last year.

Four other Eagles will also be heading out of state. Thomas Elms (Baldwin City Blues) and Christos Stefanos (Dodge City A's) will be in Kansas while Brayden Englert (Bancroft Bandits) and Connor Kostecka (Boulder Collegians), are slated to spend part of their summer in Iowa and Colorado, respectively.

A number of other Eagles will stay close to home through June and July. Pairs of Eagles from the 2019 roster will be on the OC Riptide (Tyler Piston and Chris Despars) and the Lincoln Potters (Andrew Buglino and Tyler Mead). And incoming student-athlete Juan Sanchez will play with Christian Beyer on the So. Cal 'Stros.

Additional updates on the success of Biola Baseball's summer successes will be uploaded right here at athletics.biola.edu at the end of June and July.
