Biola Wins Quickly

Biola Men’s Tennis records a bunch of fast wins in a road match with Saint Katherine.

SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- Biola Men's Tennis picked up its second win in a row on Friday, winning 8-1 to defeat the Saint Katherine Firebirds for the second time this season.

Head Coach David Goodman's group dropped one game or fewer in four of the five singles matches and also recorded a 8-0 decision in doubles against Saint Katherine, which falls to 0-8 on the year. The win is Biola's second on the road this season and brings them within one win of a .500 record at 8-9.

With only five players on their roster, the Firebirds defaulted two points to Biola at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The Eagles made quick work of their opponents with Erik Martinez and Edwyn Ramos winning 8-3 at No. 1 doubles and David Garcia and Andres Meneses taking their decision by an 8-0 score.

The win in doubles is a team-best ninth for Ramos while Meneses stays undefeated in limited doubles action at 3-0 in 2019.

In singles, all four of Biola's wins on the courts were dominant. Logan Blair, Garcia and Martinez rattled off love-and-love wins at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 while Meneses dropped just one game in his 6-1, 6-0 victory. The 6-0, 6-0 wins for Blair, Garcia and Martinez were the first bagel-bagel wins any of them had recorded this season.

Biola is now 45-36 as a team in singles matches this year. Blair gets the first win of his collegiate career at the No. 1 flight while Garcia's win at No. 4 gives him a winning record at all four of the singles positions he's played at this year.

The Eagles will head back out on the road on April 4 for their next match. Concordia is up next on the schedule with the match in Newport Beach, California scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
