Concordia Gets Overtime Revenge

Concordia takes a road win in overtime and spoils a good defensive effort from Biola.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It's hard to find a truer rubber match than the game that was played in Chase Gym on Tuesday night.

Last minute shots at the end of the regulation sent Concordia and Biola to overtime for their second-straight meeting and Jazz Benn went off again for Biola with 24 points against CUI. But the clutch-time breaks and the three-point shots just didn't go Biola's way on the evening and the visiting Eagles took the overtime win, 72-63.

Biola falls to 9-13, 7-9 PacWest after the loss and switches places with Concordia in the PacWest standings as CUI jumps to sixth place with a record of 9-13, 8-9 PacWest.

The team's headed into the halftime break within a point of each other at 27-26 in favor of Concordia. Both teams converted just three shots from beyond the arc over the 20 minutes but Head Coach Alan Nakamura's group was able to stick in the game with 11 made free throws in their 13 attempts.

The tide turned more in Biola's favor during the second half as Benn scored 14 points and Mikayla Greens came on strong with eight points and four rebounds. The home team immediately took the lead on a Brenna Khaw three-pointer 44 seconds into the third quarter and traded tying and go-ahead baskets with Concordia for a the first six minutes of the fourth.

Then back-to-back buckets from Jessica Shill and Benn gave Biola a three-point lead with under two minutes left that Danita Estorga would then rebuild with two free throws that put Biola up 61-58 with 14 seconds remaining.

Unfortunately for Biola, Concordia took the game's momentum after those free throws. Jasmine Rachal drained a three-pointer from the top of the arc in the play immediately after Estorga's free throws to send the game to overtime and CUI would outscore BU 11-2 in the overtime period for the win.

The Eagles will return to the hardwood quickly, as Biola travels up to Fresno to take on Fresno Pacific on Thursday night.
