Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second Half Shooting Earns Win

Biola hits a bunch of threes in a strong second half to beat Fresno Pacific.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- A slow start was followed by a torrid second half as Biola Men's Basketball clinched a 77-67 win over Fresno Pacific to head into the NCAA Winter Break as winners.

The Eagles improved to 4-1 in PacWest Conference play by outscoring the Sunbirds 48-37 over the final 20 minutes, powered by great ball movement and some good shooting from the corners.

Biola managed just 29 points in the first half, shooting just 10-for-28 from the floor. Thankfully though, Fresno Pacific couldn't manage much better, going just 12-for-29 (41 percent), which was down from their season average of 47 percent.

The Eagles outscored the Sunbirds 26-14 over the first 10 minutes and change in the second half, taking advantage of a 2-for-8 start to the period to quickly regain the lead.

The three-point shot was the weapon of choice for the Eagles during that long run. The Eagles built their 12-point lead by making six threes, accounting for 18 of their first 26 points in the second half.

Biola would make two more triples later in the half and, perhaps more importantly, held their opponents to just 1-for-13 from beyond the arc in the second half. That was critical as the combination of Spencer Heimerdinger and Adrian Antunez was dangerous from distance in the first 20 minutes.

Biola led by as many as 15 and never fewer than nine over the game's final quarter.

The Eagles' good looks throughout the night came courtesy Marquise Mosley, who made a massive impact in his first night back in the rotation. He ended with a season-high seven assists and also chipped in 16 points of his own on a selective 5-of-9 performance. Mosley also went 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. Biola did a great job as a team, nailing 18-of-24 (75 percent) on the night.

Biola's 11 three-pointers ties its season-best, which its done three times now this season. Mosley had two of those threes, with Michael Bagatourian also hitting a pair, Chris Rossow and Jesse Elrod scoring three a piece and Alex Wright knocking one down.

Rossow was the Eagles' leading scorer on the night, finishing with 20 points and also shooting 5-of-9. He made seven of eight from the charity stripe.

Elrod had 19 points and recorded his first double-double of the season, tying Alex Wright for the team-lead with 11 rebounds. Bagatourian was the fourth Eagle to top double digits with 13 points tonight. He's scored 10 or more in all but one game this season.

Biola improves to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the PacWest. The team is off now for Christmas and resumes action with the first game of its Hawaiian road trip at Hawaii Pacific (3-7, 1-2 PacWest) on January 2.
