LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Alyssa Chavez' Defender of the Week honor is a long time coming for the senior centerback who has been excellent all season. She was pivotal yet again in Saturday's shutout of Hawaii Hilo, winning multiple challenges in the second half and delivering a sliding tackle that ended a Vulcans 3-v-2 opportunity as the visitors looked for an equalizing goal. 

Chavez helped the Eagles restrict Hawaii Hilo to zero shots on goal over the final 60 minutes of the match and just one shot on target the entire match. Biola's backline also prevented the Vulcans from taking any corner kicks while Head Coach Erin Brunelle's group took 11 in the match. 

This is Chavez' first PacWest weekly honor and the third Defender of the Week recognition for Biola Women's Soccer. Goalkeeper Christina Rodriguez got it on September 16 and outside back Colie Martin was named the conference's best defender on October 14. 

Chavez and the Eagles are back in action Monday night, hosting Hawaii Pacific on Al Barbour Field at 4 p.m.
