OAKLAND, Calif. --- For the second year in a row Biola Swim & Dive returns home as the champions of the Bay Area Invitational, hosted by Mills College.

The men's team won their meet with 899.5 total points, outlasting UC Santa Cruz' 763.5. The women's team placed second in the five-team field with 820 points. It was a two-team battle for the women's title with CSU East Bay accumulating 891 points. No other women's team had more than 375 points.

The Eagles' combined team tally was 1,719.5. Biola won the meet going away. UC Santa Cruz had the second-best combined team tally at 1,138.5. The Eagles won last year's combined meet by just 20 points over UCSC.

Biola's swimmers were busy throughout the day, grabbing up 52 top-5 finishes. Thirty-two of those 52 were in the top-3 and eight times the Eagles had the top finisher.

Biola got started on the right foot with a win in the women's 400-medley relay. Nicole Chang, Anna Haaksma, Liza Parahnevich and Kolya Vos combined to go 4:03.48 to win the event by almost four full seconds.

The men also won that relay. Clayton Owens, James Gamette, Raymond Kam and Jonas Huckabay went 3:38.42 to edge out the competition from College of Idaho. Biola had two of the top-3 relay teams in the event.

The 1,650 was a part of Saturday's competition. Audrey Vermeulen held it down for the women's team placing fifth (18:39.55).

The Eagles' first win of the day came courtesy of Liza Parahnevich, who kept the hot streak going. She took first in the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:00.11. Nicole Chang was right behind her once again, ending as runner-up with a time of 1:01.15.

Parahnevich had a strong go in the women's 50-freestyle, too. The freshman placed third with a :25.22. Kolya Vos (:25.44) also finished top-5. Kyle De Villiers, Smith and Kam went 3-4-5 in the men's 50-freestyle, led by De Villiers' time of :22.51. Biola also had places 6-7 and 9-12 in the race.

Liza would end up sweeping both backstroke events as she also topped the leaderboard in the 200-backstroke (2:07.66). Her time was about five seconds faster than her seed time in the event. Just like in the shorter version, Chang finished second.

The freshman picked up a third win of the day when she won the 400-IM with a time of 4:33.50. Biola Eagles occupied four of the five top spots in the race.

Tanner Smith led the way in the men's 100-backstroke. He finished third with a :56.24. 

Anna Haaksma became the second individual event winner in the very next race, taking first with a 1:09.97 in the 100-breaststroke. Celine Dong also came top-3 with a nifty 1:13.21.

Haaksma came so close to repeating Parahnevich's feat of sweeping a certain stroke. She finished second in the 200-breaststroke, swimming a 2:30.75. That was full six seconds faster than her seed time and just :00.15 seconds slower than the winner.

Raymond Kam and James Gamette had the same placements in the men's version of the 100-breaststroke, going 1:00.34 and 1:02.04, respectively.

Kam, on the other hand, was able to match the repeat winning of Parahnevich. He followed-up his 100-breaststroke win with a victory in the 200-breast (2:14.29).

Biola got another relay win when Alex Ness anchored the Eagles' 4x200-yard freestyle relay. Ness, Smith, Patrick Waggoner and Gabe Weber went 7:14.69 to win the event by about six seconds.

Weber continued his fine start to the season with another distance victory on Saturday. He won the 500-freestyle with a 4:48.58 to run away with the event.

Faith McAllister and Rachel Stinchcomb both landed inside of the top-5 in the 100-butterfly. McAllister had an excellent race to finish second overall with a 1:01.42.

Colin Reeve added his name to the list of Eagles to win an event this year with a big swim in the men's equivalent of the 100-butterfly. He went :55.04 to lead a group of three top-5 finishers for BU. Nathan Schwantes finished second and Andrew Benson fifth.

The evening closed out with the 200-freestyle relay, with the women's top team placing second and the guys getting yet another win.

Up next for Biola is a week that been circled on the calendar for quite some time. The Eagles will have a home-and-home dual meet with Azusa Pacific. Biola hosts APU at Lansing Pool on Friday afternoon. Competition is at Azusa Pacific the following day.
