Game Recap: Volleyball |

Foot On The Gas

Biola keeps its conference winning streak going, sweeping NDNU on the road.

BELMONT, Calif. --- As expected, Biola Volleyball showed up for its first of back-to-back matches in NorCal and absolutely dominated from start to finish. The Eagles took care of Notre Dame de Namur in straight sets (25-15; 25-11; 25-16), including massive runs of points in all three games.

Bekah Roth continues to sparkle, leading the effort with 14 kills and a .458 hitting percentage. Her 14-kill effort is the most by any Eagle in a three-set match this year. Roth also has the second and third-most kills in three-setters with 13 against Holy Names last week and 11 against ART U, also last week.

Roth has been on fire for this second-half of the season. Her 118 kills since PacWest Conference play began is a team-best. She's put up three-straight double-digit kill performances and five in the last sixth outings. That one miss was a nine-kill effort against Hawaii Hilo.

The .458 from Bekah is the third-best number by any Eagle in a match this year. Roth's .500 against ART U is tops with Raegan Tjepkema having the number two mark at .476 against APU.

As a team, the Eagles hit .314 in this one with 49 kills. The .314 mark is the team's best against any team not named Academy of Art and the 49 kills is the most they've managed in a three-set match.

So, yeah, the offense was rolling tonight. Joining Roth in the hit parade was Madison Beebe who nearly matched her season-high with a nine-kill effort. Abigail Copeland added six, Savannah Hilde and Abby Brewster had five and the four from Sabrina Winslow brought the senior to precisely 800 in her Biola career. Adding in her Fresno State numbers from freshman year Winslow is up to 898 overall.

The Eagles never trailed in sets one or two, but they trailed as late as 10-9 in the clinching third. Long runs of points were the hallmark of each of the three sets. Biola won four in a row and six of the last eight to end set one, won eight in a row to open up a 16-5 lead in set two and then turning a close set into a blowout by winning six of seven and ultimately 10 of 13 to finish set three.

The fantastic night from the Biola offense was a stark contrast to the struggle on the NDNU side throughout the match. The Argos managed just 18 kills against BU, hitting into a Biola block seven times and hitting just over .000.

Tjepkema led the blocking effort with four. Sami Hover piled on her ninth 20+ dig night of the season by leading Biola's back row to 65 total digs, powered by the junior's 20. Becca Branch also hit double-digits with 13, while Kaitlin O'Brien was all over the court getting balls up for nine digs of her own.

The win moves Biola to 11-9 overall and pushes NDNU's losing streak to 12 matches. The Eagles have now one two-thirds of their conference matches this year, improving to 8-4 in the PacWest.

Next up for BU is Dominican (1-17; 1-12 PacWest) at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. The Penguins took a set off Concordia Irvine in a losing effort Friday night.
