Game Recap: Volleyball |

Streak Up To Four

Biola has won four PacWest matches in a row following 3-1 win over Dominican.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. --- A start time four hours earlier than originally scheduled did not seem to throw things off for Biola Volleyball on Saturday as BU cruised past Dominican in four sets (25-8; 24-26; 25-12; 25-14) to earn its fourth-consecutive PacWest Conference win.

The Eagles again featured an overwhelming offensive onslaught to out-power the Dominican Penguins. Biola had 56 kills compared to just 23 from Dominican and held the Penguins to -.020, making it the first time this season at BU's kept its opponent in the negative.

The first set is what made all the difference on the offensive side. The Penguins had major struggles out the gate, recording just three kills to 11 attack errors in game one. Meanwhile, Biola hit .364 but only was able to get nine kills because of so many gift points from DUC.

The Eagles won the first six points of the match and nine of the first 10 overall. Biola had a strong finish to the first set as well, winning the final 11 points of the game.

Biola had as large as a 15-9 lead in the second set, but a late-game run from the Penguins allowed the host school to weasel its way back in. Dominican won five rallies in a row to tie the game at 18 and setup a race to the finish.

The Penguins led 21-19, trailed 24-23 but then rattled off three in a row to defend BU's set point and win game two in extra points. A Dominican service ace and Biola attack error were the two clinching points.

After that it was back to smooth sailing for Head Coach Aaron Seltzer's team. BU put up its best hitting percentage of the match (.394) and most kills of the match (16) in set four to bounce back. The double-digit advantages in sets three and four helped BU improve to 9-4 this year in PacWest contests.

The Eagles' offense was led by Sabrina Winslow's 13 kills. It's the most kills for the senior outside hitter since back on Sept. 13 when she had 21 against Alaska Anchorage. It's her first double-digit effort in the last 10 outings.

Raegan Tjepkema showed up with some big swings on Saturday as well, also topping 10+ with her 12 kills. She was efficient as she's been all season, needing just 17 swings for the 12 kills and making zero attack errors to hit a mind-blowing .706.

Tjepkema, Winslow (.346), Abby Brewster (7 - .353) and Madison Beebe (7 - .294) all had at least five kills and a .250 percentage.

Brewster had a highlight match, once again coming close to the elusive triple-double. She added a team-high 23 assists and a second-best 18 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Vanessa Garcia (22 assists) and Sami Hover (28 digs) were also leaders in those categories. Hover's 28 digs are the second-most this season for Biola in a four-set match. Hover had 29 against Alaska Anchorage.

Biola moves to 12-9 overall and 9-4 in the PacWest thanks to another win. They conclude their season road schedule with their next match, a Friday night contest at Concordia Irvine this coming week.
