Cold Stretches Slow Offense

Biola Women’s Basketball had its spurts on Wednesday, but shooting troubles throughout the night resulted in a loss to Point Loma.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After 18 days away from PacWest play, the Biola Eagles had a hard time in their return to action at Chase Gym on Wednesday.

The Point Loma Sea Lions limited the Eagles to 28.6 percent shooting on the night and took a commanding 22-7 lead after the first quarter that Biola was unable to close. The Eagles drop to 5-7, 3-3 PacWest after the loss and will half to wait until their long trip to the Bay Area coming up at the end of this week to earn their fourth conference win.

Biola early shooting struggles in the first half resulted in just three field goals in each of the first two quarters while Point Loma shot over 38 percent from the field over the same span. Tatum Brimley would lead the Eagles in scoring during the first half and ended with a team-high 11 points. But the Sea Lions just seemed to have a better offensive flow in the game because they had played three games during the span Biola was away from conference play.

Biola showed a spark of life to begin the second half after going into the break with a 32-19 deficit. Brimley made two jumpers in the first two minutes of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 10 and Kayla Macedo and Aysia Johnson lined up back-to-back three-pointers later in the quarter. But the Sea Lions went on a 7-0 run between those events to keep the home team at arms-length.

Brimley's 11 points in the contest makes it seven double-digit scoring efforts in the past nine games for the junior point guard. Aysia Johnson brought hustle off the bench for the second contest in a row and chipped in six points while Sara Dougan collected four points with six rebounds. Dougan tied with Brenna Khaw for the team-lead in the rebound category on Wednesday.

The Eagles will begin a four-game road trip in Belmont on Saturday when they take on Notre Dame de Namur. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
