RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University was the gold standard of the PacWest Conference over the past seven or eight years. Alex Wright, a talented scorer and distributor, got a year of grooming from Head Coach Rick Croy and his standout staff before deciding Biola would be a better fit for him to continue his basketball career.

Wright went to high school at Woodcrest Christian in Riverside, becoming the Royals' all-time leading scorer with over 2,100 career points, before staying local and committing to the Lancers for the 2017-18 school year. He sat out the 17-18 season as a redshirt and worked on his game and frame before making the decision to move closer to the coast and transition into Dr. Dave Holmquist's program for his four years of eligibility.

"I chose Biola for the Christian atmosphere and the opportunity to play basketball with a great coaching staff and great group of guys," said Wright.  

He played basketball and volleyball in high school and earned All-CIF first team honors in both sports. He was featured on the All-CIF team for basketball three out of four years in his high school career. In addition to the honors from the state, Wright was the best point guard in his league, landing on the all-league first team four times and once earning league MVP honors. His athletic abilities allowed him to be just as successful in his other sport as he earned three all-league first team honors in volleyball and added two more league MVP honors.

He finished his high school career with a 4.1+ GPA and was a member of the National Honors Society. His knack from academic excellence continued in his year at California Baptist as he maintained a 3.8 GPA and landed on the Provost's list. 

Wright joins a Biola team that only had one player graduate from 2017-18. The team is primed for a bigger and better year during the second season in the PacWest Conference, especially with the two top teams, CBU and Dixie State no longer in the picture.

Wright and his teammates begin the year hosting the PacWest/CCAA Crossover with CSU San Marcos, Concordia University Irvine and CSU Los Angeles on Nov. 9-10. Their conference-opener is at home against Notre Dame de Namur on Nov. 29 and mark your calendars for the home Azusa Pacific game on Saturday, Dec. 15.
