Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Sea Lions Surge Past Eagles

Biola suffers 8-1 loss at Point Loma.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- For the third match in a row Biola Men's Tennis managed to win one match, but suffered losses in all others as it fell 8-1 to PacWest Conference rival, Point Loma.

The Eagles dropped all three doubles, despite playing their opponents close in each flight. The No. 1 matchup was the tightest as Derek James and Lucas Lee were attempting to win their third match in a row. They won six games, but ultimately fell short to the Sea Lions' top pairing.

It was another long day of singles as Biola split sets in half of the singles matchups. The match was already decided by the time all three of those flights finished up, which meant they were all played as super tiebreakers rather than full third sets.

Lucas Lee was one of the Eagles who forced a third set tiebreaker by winning his first set, 6-3, before dropping the second, 6-4. He ultimately scooped up a 10-5 win in the tiebreaker to earn Biola its lone win of the match.

Derek James (No. 2 singles) and Michael Vartuli (No. 6) also made their way into a superbreaker. Vartuli managed to win his first set 7-6 in order to get to the tiebreaker, but fell short 10-3 in that deciding set.

James lost his first set but fought back with a 6-4 win in the second to have him on the precipice of pulling in a victory for BU. He couldn't hang with Brendon Millington in that tiebreaker, falling 10-2 to drop the match.

Biola fell to 5-13 with the loss, while the Sea Lions improved to 12-6 with their fifth win in their last six matches.

The Eagles return home this next week for their final match of the regular season. The Eagles host Ottawa (Ariz.) at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
