Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Eagles Top Royals In Close One

Biola wins 7-2, but just about every match came down to the wire.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Tennis and Hope International tennis have some history. There's not much love lost between the two sides, which made Thursday's 7-2 positive result all that much more sweet for the Eagles.

Biola hosted the Royals for a 3:00 p.m. soiree at the Biola Tennis Center on Thursday and came away with a dominant win, grabbing victory at all but one singles matchup and all but one doubles matchup.

Single was no walk in the park, as two matches had to go into a super tiebreaker, including one going all the way to 10-8, but when all was said and done BU got the job done and earned its second victory of the year and first at home.

Number one singles and number three doubles were the only matchups where BU fell short, leaving Derek James, Lucas Lee, Quentin Lau and Logan Blair with perfect 2-0 performances on the afternoon.

Blair's day was made even more special when he dismissed his singles opponent with a perfect 6-0; 6-0 victory. Blair's victory was his first this year while playing in the No. 4 spot. His other win this season was at No. 5.

James, Lau and Lee all bumped their doubles records to a win above .500 with 4-3 marks. James and Lee combined in the No. 1 doubles spot and gutted out a tough 8-6 win. Lau and Blair were the No. 2 pair and had the same margin of victory at 8-6.

James played two sets and a super breaker at No. 2 singles to work his way to a win. He took set one handily at 6-4, but then was defeated in a tiebreaker in the second set to force the breaker. It went the full distance before James clinched his battle with a 10-8 win.

Joe Turnquist also used some extra time to earn his win in the No. 5 singles spot. The senior had an up-and-down day, dropping the first set 6-2 before crushing his opponent 6-1 in the second to force the breaker. This was also a relatively decisive win for Turnquist at 10-6.

The win moves the Eagles to 2-5 on the year and drops the Royals to 1-4. Biola will take some time off for next week's Spring Break before getting back into PacWest Conference play by playing Holy Names on the road on March 1.
