Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

That's All, Folks

Another Biola Basketball season comes to an end following loss to Dixie State.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Thursday night was senior night in Chase Gymnasium as the Eagles had the chance to celebrate Blake Shannon, Jr.'s final game in a BU uniform. The game ended up going the way of the visiting Dixie State Trailblazers, 82-57, who clinched at least a share of the PacWest Conference championship with the win.

Fittingly, a Shannon Jr. three-point swish from the top of the arc was the first offense for the evening. Biola got off to a quick start, staking an early lead through the first two-plus minutes, but could not hold on as the bigger bodies and very athletic guards for DSU took over the game and led the Trailblazers to the big win.

Dixie State got a pair of free throws from their best player, Trevor Hill, to take the lead 6-5 and they never trailed again in the contest. Hill would score 15 first-half points for the visitors and help them to a 41-27 halftime advantage that spiraled to even more throughout their 41-point second half.

Biola was only able to make 36 percent of its field goals tonight, which is the second-lowest output of the year and the lowest its had at home. By comparison, the visitors shot 54 percent, funneling most of their offense through players close to the basket in order to maximize the productivity of their possessions.

Isaiah Jones was having no difficulty finding the bucket with relative ease. The big man completed his flashy freshman season with a 20-point game off 9-of-17 shooting. He also grabbed 11 rebounds for one of Biola's two double-doubles in this one.

Alex Talma also managed a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Trevor Treinen managed 12 points, salvaging an off shooting night with a good performance at the line to get up into double-digits.

Shannon closed his collegiate career with seven points and five assists.

Dixie State has one game left and will look to beat Point Loma to claim the outright conference title before going into the conference tournament played at the CBU Events Center next month.

The Eagles' season comes to a close at 11-17 and 5-15 in its first year of PacWest Conference play. Shannon is the only Eagle to be done as this developing young team has a good run left in it. Steve Herve will also return for his senior season next year to come alongside a promising recruiting class. All that should put Biola at least back at .500 next season, if not even better.

Hope to see you in November to kick it all off. Mark December 15, 2018 on your calendar as the date of next year's home games vs. Azusa Pacific.
