Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Two-for-Two

Biola Men's Basketball survives and advances against Holy Names.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- All but 15 of Biola's 61 points on Saturday came from its starting five. Fourteen of those 15 bench points came from one source as Levi Auble had another fantastic game as Biola's sixth man. He and the starters did just enough to get Biola over the hump against Holy Names to remain undefeated in PacWest play. Biola beat the Hawks 61-50 in a choppy, foul-heavy affair.

Biola scored the first 11 points of the game and seemed to be headed for a massive victory with a 19-2 lead over eight minutes into the game. However, the well dried up a bit over the final 30 minutes, seeing HNU outscore Biola 48-42 over the last three-quarters of the game.

Thankfully, that early burst allowed the Eagles to hold on and get the win. The scoring did not begin immediately. Biola was just 1-of-4 from the floor in the first three minutes or so. But, when it came, it came in a big way as the Eagles went 8-of-10 shooting from 17:28 until 12:07 in the first half, culminating with another rim-rattling breakaway Levi Auble dunk to bring the game to that 19-2 point and force an early timeout.

After that dunk, Biola didn't make another field goal until there was just 1:27 on the clock before halftime. The Eagles managed eight points over that stretch, because Michael Bagatourian kept getting fouled and making his free throws. So, even with 10+ minutes without a field goal BU felt pretty comfortable with a 29-16 lead just before the break.

After halftime, BU got outscored 32-27 while shooting just 19 field-goal attempts in the second half. BU had an eight-rebound edge in the half, but had a -7 turnover differential to limit their possessions. For the game, Biola coughed the ball up 21 times.

Alex Wright and Auble were Biola's most consistent scorers in the second half. Wright went 2-for-4 and shot well from the charity stripe to have seven second-half points. Auble had six points on 3-of-4 shooting in the second and was one of three Eagles with five second-half rebounds.

All's well that ends well, but this is definitely a game BU will look back on as a game they escaped. When all was said and done Bagatouria (14) and Auble (14) were the game's leading scorers. Bags had eight of his 14 come from the free-throw line. Trevor Treinen (12) and Wright (12) also had double-digits.

Alex Talma continues to be a rebounding machine, leading all players with 12. He is averaging 9.9-per-game now, which is tops in the PacWest Conference.

The win makes Biola 6-2 overall and 2-0 in PacWest play. Holy Names drops to 1-6 (0-2 PacWest) with the loss. Biola will have its biggest challenge of the season with Point Loma (6-2, 2-0 PacWest) on the road on Wednesday night.
