Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hot Shooters Douse Firebirds

Biola makes about 60 percent of its threes to claim a 90-53 victory.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The three-point shot was locked in from start to finish for Biola in its nearly 40-point victory on Thursday night. Funny enough, one of the highlight plays of the night was when the Eagles' sneaky shooter Christian Carroll drove through the lane for a nifty reverse lay-in.

All was going right for Biola for that and many other similar plays to happen throughout the dominant 40 minutes. The Eagles shot nearly 49 percent and made 56 percent from distance (14-of-25) to beat Saint Katherine, 90-53.

Biola spread the love, with 11 players ending up with at least 10 minutes in the game and no one going over 21. Alex Talma was the man with 21 minutes, and he also happened to be the one leading BU in scoring with 16. Talma was limited in minutes and kept from extending his double-double streak, but he made the most of his time on the floor by going 6-of-6 from the free throw line. The Eagles' shot 14-of-17 as a team from the stripe.

The Eagles never trailed and the game was only tied at 0-0. Dr. Dave Holmquist was able to take his foot off the gas a bit when his team exploded to a 21-2 advantage less than four minutes into the game.

That part of the game was really enjoyable to watch as Alex Wright and Trevor Treinen were repeatedly hitting threes, and when they didn't have an open look they could dump it to Talma who was dominating his men inside.

Wright would actually end the game a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor, with all four shots being made threes. It was his third double-digit scoring game of the year and came in just 16 minutes on the floor.

Biola went into the halftime room up 48-21 after holding the Firebirds to just eight made field goals in the first half. The Eagles didn't send their opponent to the free throw line even once in what was their cleanest and most impressive half of the year.

Treinen (14) and Michael Bagatourian (10) ended up joining Talma and Wright in double-digits. Then the starters spent a good chunk of the second half on the bench and let guys like Carroll, Will Shannon and Whitten Dominguez handle the load.

Dominguez had his best night of the year, accumulating eight points, three rebounds and three dandy dimes, while more importantly limiting to just one turnover and no fouls.

The total team effort allows Biola to improve to 3-1 on the season, while Saint Katherine falls to 1-7. Biola will keep it going this Saturday when it plays at Pomona-Pitzer at 7 p.m. in the Sagehens' season-opener.
