LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Basketball earned its first win and first PacWest weekly awards during its opening week hosting the PacWest/CCAA Challenge.

The Eagles beat CSU San Marcos on opening day behind 20 points from freshman Alex Wright and a double-double from Alex Talma. Those two players were rewarded for their strong week with awards from the conference office.

Talma was recognized as the PacWest's Defensive Player of the Week after putting up 24 rebounds and a pair of double-doubles during the Eagles' 1-1 week. The big man from New Zealand added two blocks and two steals in Biola's game two loss to CSULA to further cement his strong defensive numbers.

Wright was the Eagles' leading scorer in the season opener. He poured in 18 second-half points to lift BU to a come-from-behind win over the visiting Cougars in his first-ever collegiate game. He followed that up with eight points in the game against CSULA and ended the week shooting an even 50 percent from the field.

The redshirt freshman transfer from California Baptist took home the conference's first PacWest Freshman of the Year honors.

The Eagles are back at home for more action this week. BU has three games, with home contests on Tuesday and Thursday night and a tough road battle scheduled at Pomona Pitzer on Saturday.
