IRVINE, Calif. --- On Saturday night, Biola traveled down the 5, 55 and 405 for the first time this season to complete its two-match set against Concordia Irvine.
BU completed the season sweep of the green and gold Eagles from Irvine with a decisive 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 25-10) win over CUI. Biola took six of seven sets from Concordia this season to improve to 43-20 all-time against their long-time foes. It was also the Eagles' 10th-consecutive PacWest victory, the longest streak in the league this year.
"I thought we were very balanced tonight. We moved the ball around. Our setters did a good job distributing," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "Defensively, we did a really good job tonight, and we also served the ball well."
Concordia kept it close at the start of the first two sets, but then unforced errors from CUI helped Biola take both games rather comfortably. The hosts found a way to extend the match by limiting those mistakes in the third set while claiming 15 kills  25-19.
But, then Biola was all business as it came out for the fourth. It forced Concordia to burn both timeouts within the first 15 points (13-2 lead) and cruised the the set win to clinch the match. The 25-10 victory is the largest set win of the season for this Biola team. It was powered by a .516 team hitting percentage and three blocks and two aces.
BU ended up with 57 kills and a .321 clip for the match. Sabrina Winslow, Christina DenBoer and Karly Dantuma combined for 41 of those 57 kills with all three having 12 or more with a hitting percentage of .346 or better.
For the second match in a row Biola managed double-digit service aces to give them a bunch of breathing room throughout the night. Saturday they finished with 12, led by five from Winslow. She and
Vanessa Garcia both managed double-doubles for Biola. Garcia led the team with 31 assists and added 11 digs. Winslow paired 12 kills with 12 digs.
Sierra Bauder hit at least .400 for the third-consecutive match and 11th time this season to also help on the offensive end, while Dantuma (7) and Bekah Roth (6) led Biola's blocking effort.
Sami Hover led the effort in the back row with 23 digs.
"Sami, tonight, was so, so good. Any time you can average more than five in a game in any match, it's awesome," said Seltzer.
The win helps Biola improve to 18-5 overall and 14-2 in conference play, which keeps them atop the PacWest standings in advance of next Tuesday's rematch with the Azusa Pacific Cougars.
It will be a big week to help determine who will win the conference this season as Biola faces its top two opponents at Azusa Pacific (17-6, 13-2 PacWest) and then at home against Point Loma (15-7, 12-3 PacWest). The first few hundred fans in attendance against Point Loma will receive FREE CHICK-FIL-A.
