LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball is now 7-2 in PacWest play after winning both matches last week. They've won six of the last seven including five 3-0 sweeps. This week is a big one for the Eagles as they host conference-leading Azusa Pacific (13-4; 9-0 PacWest) on Wednesday and Dominican (4-9, 2-6 PacWest) on Friday.

BIOLA (11-5, 7-2) vs. AZUSA PACIFIC 13-4, 9-0): Wednesday Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video \\ Promotion: Free Chick-Fil-A
This matchup has been circled on both team's calendar since the outset of the 2018 season. The Cougars were picked to finish first in the PacWest, the Eagles second. Both teams tied for second a year ago with sparkling 15-5 conference marks and both are meeting expectations to this point in the year. Biola sits two games behind APU at this point with two head-to-head matchups on the table. Theoretically Biola needs to win both to have a sure chance at the PacWest title this year. The two teams split last season with Azusa Pacific winning at home (3-2) and Biola winning at home (3-0). Biola leads the all-time series with a 50-32 record and they've won six of the last 10 matchups between the two sides. Both teams feature dominant players in the middle, with APU sporting preseason PacWest Player of the Year Julianne Miller (141 kills, .414 %, 60 blocks) and Biola having the only two-time PacWest Player of the Week, Sierra Bauder (157 kills, .463 %, 58 blocks). Statistically, APU has had the better season to this point, leading Biola in all major stat categories, except service aces. But as the Eagles proved on the Chase Gym floor last season, that doesn't mean much once the first serve goes up. The first 250 people in attendance will get free Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwiches courtesy Chick-Fil-A at the La Habra Marketplace.

BIOLA (11-5, 7-2) at DOMINICAN (4-9, 2-6): Friday Oct. 5 at 6:00 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
A new week means a new bird for Biola Volleyball to attempt to conquer. This go around it the Dominican University Penguins that come to campus. The Eagles and Penguins met once in 2017, with Biola taking a 3-1 win at home. Dominican shocked the Eagles with a 25-13 first set win in that matchup, but then the Eagles took each of the next three to wrap up that match. Karly Dantuma was the Eagles' leading hitter that day, finishing with 12 kills and hitting .292. Brinley Beresford also had a special match, accumulating 40 assists while posting eight kills on a .462 percentage. That match is the only other all-time meeting between these two sides. For the season, Dominican is near the bottom of the conference in just about every stat category except opponent's hitting percentage and digs. So expect the Penguins to be scrappy, hard-working on defense and keep things close throughout the night. Hana Wyles is the leader of that defensive effort. The sophomore libero is second in the conference in digs (243 total/4.96/set).

ABOUT LAST WEEK: The Eagles had an unblemished week last week, beating Concordia Irvine in three and then taking down Fresno Pacific in four on the road. It was their first match against CUI this season and second against FPU (2-0). The Eagles two victories last week put them in position where they could guarantee a winning conference record with two wins this week. Sierra Bauder was once again the star of last week as she led the conference with a weekly hitting percentage of .714 (20 kills in 7 sets). The next best attacker hit .538 (it was Karly Dantuma). Dantuma was third on the team with 16 kills last week. Sabrina Winslow was the one who led the way with 23. She sparkled in her "home game" at Fresno Pacific, recording 15 kills in that match.

THIRD SET SETBACK: Biola began its season with six consecutive matches where it lost the third set. The Eagles went 2-0 in the third set this past week and are now 8-8 on the season in the third frame. Biola now has at least a .500 mark in every set.

MY PLACE, YOUR PLACE OR THEIR PLACE: Location has not mattered much to Biola Volleyball this season as their 11 wins are split evenly with four at home, four on the road and three at neutral site locations. Biola has a chance to improve to 6-1 at home if it can pick up two wins here this week. Biola has not lost at home vs. Azusa Pacific since the 2009 season.

THREE-PEAT: By winning PacWest Player of the Week this past week, Sierra Bauder officially locked up three-consecutive weeks with a conference honor. She became the first player in the conference to repeat at Player of the Week this season. She continues to lead the league in hitting percentage (.463) and is also top-5 in blocks and top-10 in kills.

ROAD TO 1,000 (AND THEN SOME): Senior opposite hitter Karly Dantuma has now passed the 1,000 kill plateau and sits at 1,041. Dantuma also has a chance to eclipse 300 career blocks (261). If she does that she'd be just the fourth player in Biola history to have 1,000+ kills and 300+ blocks (Becky Miller, Amy Weststeyn, Michelle Warkentin).

SELTZER'S SEVENTEENTH: Seltzer is in his 17th season at the helm of the BU Volleyball squad. He's the winningest coach in program history with an all-time mark of 443-138 (.762). He's never experienced a losing season during his tenure at Biola (or even come close, with his "worst" mark being 19-11). His teams have won at least 26 matches every year since 2010.

BIRD IS THE WORD: The bird streak is once again on the line this week. Biola beat the Eagles and Sunbirds last week to stretch its streak to a new high of 32 consecutive wins over programs with bird-related mascots. The Eagles have a chance to make it 33 on Friday vs. the Dominican Penguins. If it is still active, the Eagles would have their next chance to extend their streak on the road against Concordia Irvine (6-11, 5-4 PacWest) on Oct. 20.

NEXT WEEK: at Chaminade (10/9 at 10:00 p.m. PT); at Hawaii Pacific (10/10 at 10:00 p.m. PT); at Hawaii Hilo (10/12 at 10:00 p.m. PT)
