BREA, Calif. --- Head Coach Sean Henning's men's team continues to improve with the addition of local kid Giovanni Orellana. Orellana was a leader at Brea Olinda High School for the last four years and will compete on cross country and track & field for the Eagles.
 
During his time at Brea Olinda, Orellana earned three All-CIF SS awards and helped his team to a very successful handful of accomplishments.
 
"Gio was the first piece I added to our freshman class. He loved Biola so much when he visited that he was ready to commit very shortly after," said Henning. "He has already connected with the team and has a great personality that will easily fit into our team chemistry. Gio is a gifted runner who has had good success in high school but still has more to prove. I think he will transition really well to the 8k and eventually 10k distance in cross country and should have lots of success next year as a freshman."
 
Orellana helped the Wildcats win three Century League championships, three CIF Southern Section Championships and a pair of DIII State Championships. He committed to Biola all the way back in September 2016.
 
During his four varsity seasons the team even had the chance to compete at the Nike Cross Country National Championships once.
 
"I chose Biola because I felt God was calling me here," said Orellana.
 
Orellana was actually a soccer player before he took up running. He played 12 years of soccer before dedicating himself to his competitive career being as a runner.
 
He plans to study liberal studies at Biola and hopes for a future as an elementary school teacher.
