Eagles Dominate PacWest Awards

The Biola Cross Country Program claimed six of the PacWest Conference's eight major awards for the 2025 season.

LA MIRADA---The Biola Cross Country Program claimed six of the PacWest Conference's eight major awards for the 2025 season, the men's team swept all four special honors and the women won two of the four.

Head coach Sean Henning was named both the women's and men's PacWest Cross Country Coach of the Year. This is his fourth-consecutive season earning the women's honor and his fifth time winning the men's - four times at Biola and once as the head coach at California Baptist.

"Coach Henning has established a great tradition of success within the Biola cross country programs," stated Senior Director of Athletics Dr. Bethany Miller. "His 11 seasons of leadership and care for his student-athletes is beyond their competitive achievements. It is seen in their academic excellence and establishing the foundational purpose of our runners glorifying the Lord through this sport He has gifted them in. We are excited to see Sean honored in this way!"

Bethany Mapes, a senior from El Cajon, California, was the PacWest Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year. Mapes put together an incredible 2025 season. She was the individual winner at the PacWest Championships and NCAA Division II West Regional. Along with earning First Team All-PacWest and All-Region, Mapes was named the West Region Runner of the Year. She also led her team at the NCAA Division II National Championship.

Melt von Molendorff was the PacWest Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year. He was the PacWest's Conference's Individual Champion and led his team  at West Regionals, placing 16th which earned him All-Region honors. He achieved career bests this season in the 8k (23:36.6) and 10k (30:16.0).

Marcin Stanglewicz was awarded Newcomer of the Year. The transfer from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) earned First Team All-PacWest honors with a sixth place finish at the conference championship. Stanglewicz also finished 52nd at the NCAA West Regional. He recorded personal bests this season in the 8k (25:08) and 10k (31:22.3).

Grant Miller won the PacWest's Freshman of the Year award. Miller recorded a fourth place finish at the PacWest Championships and First Team honors. He went on to cross the line 32nd at the NCAA West Region meet in Oregon. He was the third fastest freshman in the entire field. The Whittier native recorded personal bests in the 8K (24:24) and 10k (30:44.4).
