LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After completing another successful season in the Golden State Athletic Conference Biola Athletics placed second in the conference's All-Sports Award standings, sponsored by Duke's Huntington Beach.
 
It is the second year in a row that the Eagles finish second behind Westmont. It is also the second year in a row that BU claimed the most total points of any GSAC institution. The second-place mark ties Biola's best-ever All-Sports Award finish.

"This being our best overall All-Sports Award finish is an incredible achievement in our final year in the NAIA and GSAC," said Director of Athletics Dr. Bethany Miller. "We were intent on finishing strong this year, both in the community we formed with our colleagues\ at the peer institutions we respect so greatly, and also with our student-athletes' competitive and academic success. This is one way that shows we've achieved those goals and have honored our history in the NAIA in a really important way. We are very proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes."
 
Schools are awarded nine points for winning the conference title, eight points for placing second and so on down the line.  Schools are also given one point for each sport they sponsor in the conference.  The total points are divided by the number of sports to arrive at the scoring average, which determines the winner of the award.
 
Westmont, which only sponsors just 12 conference sports, wins the title for the fifth season in a row. Prior to the Warriors' streak Azusa Pacific won the award for 18-straight seasons.
 
Biola won the conference title in women's cross country and had top-3 finishes from men's cross country, women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, women's golf, women's tennis and men and women's track & field to garner 110 total points for an average of 7.82 over the institutions 14 sponsored sports. Biola and Arizona Christian are the only teams in the conference to sponsor all 14 sports.
 
This was the Eagles' final shot at the GSAC All-Sports award as they transition out of the GSAC and into the PacWest Conference for 2017-18. The PacWest has a similar award, the Commissioner's Cup, which has been won by former GSAC institution California Baptist over each of the previous five seasons.
