Eagles’ Five-Game Winning Streak Ends

Biola looks to respond in Thursday’s doubleheader.

Box Score ATHERTON, Calif. --- The No. 9 Menlo College offense finally broke out on Wednesday after being limited to three runs or less for five straight games and RV Biola got the short end of the stick. Wyatt Haccou battled as he always does, but the Oaks nine runs in support of an excellent start from Jason Alexander resulted in a 0-9 loss for the Eagles.

Menlo improves to 11-2 at home with its 28th win of the season and has a Golden State Athletic Conference record of 14-7. Biola will look to start a new winning streak tomorrow after its five-gamer was snapped, leaving the Eagles record at 27-14 (13-9 GSAC).

Oaks' ace Jason Alexander lived up to his monicker on Wednesday by prohibiting the Eagles from reaching third base in nine innings of work. The Eagles best chance came in the third frame, when back-to-back singles from Colton Worthington and Sam Thorne put two men aboard with one out. But Alexander induced a tailor-made 4-6-3 twin-killing to end the threat and proceeded to retire nine of the next 10 batters he faced.

He allowed only five hits and one free pass while striking out seven.

For his part, Haccou pitched like a bulldog and did an excellent job to limit the damage in a bumpy first inning. Menlo used a wild pitch and a catcher's interference call to score a run without a hit in their first at-bat, but Haccou was able to retire power hitters Julian Jarrard (14 HR's) and Jordan Getzelman (23 HR's) to keep the frame from getting out of hand.

As the NAIA's leader in home runs, Getzelman would break out in the fifth inning with a two-run home run. Menlo's three scores in the inning made the score 6-0 in favor of the home team and gave Alexander all the cushion he needed to get his seventh win of the season.

Haccou is still in the top-10 for wins amongst GSAC pitchers with six but was tagged with his third loss of the season after 4.1 innings.

The Eagles' hitters did everything they could to mount a late comeback since the bullpen limited the Oaks to one hit over the last 4.2 innings. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to string together and Biola will have to look ahead to Thursday's doubleheader.

First pitch of game one in Atherton is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
