Eagles Ground Hawks On Senior Night

Archer's final home game, C-Money's final home shot highlight the night.

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was a night riddled with emotion as the Biola Men's Basketball took the floor inside of Chase Gymnasium for the final time in the 2016-17 season. It marked the final home game of the careers of fan favorites Dakari Archer, Connor Getting, Caelan Tiongson, Jeff Gonzalez and Ryan Swain.

The Eagles broke through some early shooting struggles to soar to a 74-56 victory over San Diego Christian. The win pushed the Eagles to a final regular season record of 26-4 (12-4 GSAC) and puts them in position to be no worse than the No. 2 seed for early-March's Golden State Athletic Conference tournament.

Both teams struggled to get the ball in the basket early on in this one. For a vast majority of the half both the Hawks and the Eagles were shooting under 30 percent from the field.

A few dunks from Steve Herve and some mid-range jump shots from Trevor Treinen shook the Eagles out of their shooting slump and helped them to gain momentum heading into halftime with a 26-18 lead. Biola ended the half on a 17-8 run and made four of its final six field goals of the half.

The momentum continued when the two teams came back out from the locker room and Biola quickly built its lead up to 16 within the first eight minutes and change.

After that the team just shot the lights out for the rest of the half as it made almost 60 percent of its shots over the final 20 minutes. The Eagles also dominated the glass, holding a 44-28 rebounding advantage when all was said and done.

On his special night, Dakari Archer had himself a special night. The fourth-year senior worked his way to 22 points and added three rebounds, a pair of dimes, a block and a steal. His 22 points have him up to 1,867 career points. He sits just 103 back from the Eagles' all-time leading scorer.

Another special moment came in the second half when the entire Biola fan section inside of Chase Gym began to shout "We Want Connor!" with a little under four minutes left on the game clock.

With the game already in tow, Head Coach Dr. Dave Holmquist called on the senior forward to enter the game with just about two minutes left. Getting ran right on the floor and immediately began looking for his shot.

With the fans holding their collective breath every time, Getting saw three chances from deep over the course of the next two times down the floor. He missed the first three chances, and was looking like he'd be held scoreless as San Diego Christian took the ball back down the floor with 20 seconds left.

However, a Biola foul caused the Eagles to get the ball back with just enough time for the four-year walk-on to find himself wide open and drop one in for deep just before time expired.

The gym exploded after this, which was the perfect stamp on a perfect senior night.

Other notables from this game include Tiongson's 14, Treinen's 10 and a very nice eight point, six rebound display from Herve in just 16 minutes.

Biola will compete next during the second round of the GSAC Tournament. The game will be March 4 up at Westmont.
