Second-Half Reversal

Hawai’i-Hilo chased the Eagles down in second half and wins, 63-59.

HILO, Hawai'i --- The Eagles will have to wait a little longer to get their first PacWest win after their lead in Saturday's game disappeared and gave way to a Vulcans' victory.

Biola came out the gates charging, pulling ahead for a 16-point lead at halftime. The combination of Jazz Benn and Tatum Brimley scored 13 of the Eagles' 16 points in the first quarter before Head Coach Alan Nakamura's team had its best quarter of the night in the second period.

The Eagles scored 23 points in the second while confining Hawai'i-Hilo to single-digits with nine points. Danielle Kennedy and Jessica Shill provided a spark off the bench with six and five points, respectively, while six individuals Eagles contributed at least three points.

But the Vulcans flipped the script on the Eagles during the second half. Biola managed 20 points in response to the home team's 41 over the final 20 minutes and made just five of its 27 shots over that span.

In spite of the difficulties, the Eagles still held a lead with 4:52 left in the game because of a three-point shot from Kayla Macedo and tied the game with 28 seconds left on DeMoria White free throws.

But the player who embodied the second half surge for the Vulcans converted both parts of an and-one to give UHH the lead with 15 seconds left. Guard Danielle Dacosta finished with 18 second-half points after the three-point play and was 6-of-8 from the field with four three-pointers in the second half.

Biola created two chances from distance to tie it but could not push anything through to send the game to overtime. White and Benn both finished in double-figures for the second-straight conference game while Sara Dougan filled up the stat sheet with nine points and eight rebounds.

The Eagles are now 0-2 in PacWest play and 1-5 overall. After the team returns to California, Biola will head out to Irvine on Dec. 9 to play Concordia-Irvine. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
