Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Eagles Set New Record In Win

Biola breaks program record with 17 three-point makes in 96-93 win.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was no typical Biola Men's Basketball game on Wednesday night inside of Chase Gym. The Eagles walked away with a 96-93 win over Life Pacific in the team's final contest before the Thanksgiving break.

The Eagles had not allowed more than 72 points to their opponents in any of the previous four wins heading into this contest, but a pesky point guard from LPC opened up the floor and led to a lot of open looks when Life Pacific had the rock.

Fortunately for Dr. Holmquist and the team Trevor Treinen had a monster first half and Christian Carroll filled in with a fantastic second frame to keep the Eagles just one step ahead of the bucket-busting Warriors.

Biola set a new program record with 17 three-point makes this evening. That was the saving grace as the team did not get as much production out of the post area tonight. The team was 17-of-30 from distance (56%), which was a better percentage than they managed from the free-throw line on Wednesday night.

Treinen led with seven threes as he tallied 28 total points. Blake Shannon, Jr. and Carroll each ended with four. All four of Carroll's came on consecutive attempts in the second half and were crucial in helping Biola keep pace with what was happening on the other end. His second three-point make was the one that put Biola ahead 82-81 with five minutes on the clock. The team never trailed again.

The final minute was filled with fouls from Life Pacific and Biola did well to make its shots down the stretch and held a six-point lead with just over two seconds left. LPC's Trey Huckabay made a half-court shot as time expired to bring the score to its final resting spot at 96-93. Huckabay attended Anchorage Christian School and played with Biola's Levi Auble.

Biola had just two bench points in its win last night, but tonight was a whole different story as they outscored the Warriors' bench 22-5. Fourteen of those were from Carroll and the other eight were from Isaiah Jones, who also had nine rebounds.

Both teams shot over 50 percent for the night, with the Eagles making 59 percent of their shots and LPC 51 percent. Biola turned the ball over 21 times though, which made up for some of the missed shots by the visitors and kept the game closer than it probably should've been.

The Eagles had five guys get into double-digit, led by Treinen. He was joined by Auble (15), Shannon (13), Michael Bagatourian (13) and Carroll's 14. That was a new season-high for the junior transfer. His previous best was five points versus Chico State.

Biola has now won five games in a row and sits at 5-2 for the season. Life Pacific fell to 4-4. The Eagles have eight days off for Thanksgiving break and open their PacWest Conference season schedule with a trip to Hawaii. The first contest is at 8:30 p.m. PT against Hawaii Pacific on Thursday, November 30.
