Game Recap: Volleyball |

St. George Is SWEEP!

Biola heads to Dixie State and defeats the Trailblazers in three.

ST. GEORGE, Utah --- Biola Volleyball made its first and last trip to St. George, Utah as members of the PacWest Conference and came away with a very, very favorable result in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-23) win.

The Eagles made the six-hour drive yesterday and had to spend the whole morning in a hotel, but they did not come out looking stiff or out of focus at all. Each set was close, but the team did exactly what it needed to at the end of each of the three sets in order to get out of Dixie with a win in just over one hour.

"Winning on the road here is very, very difficult to do," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "I am so proud of how well they played, prepared and executed. At the very end of every game they executed."

Set one was tied at 20-20 before BU won five of the next seven. The Eagles trailed 19-18 in set two before zipping to seven of the final 10 points. The Trailblazers looked to be on their way to forcing the match to go four with a 21-17 lead in the third, but two aces, four kills and a Biola block helped BU wrap up the match with a 25-23 victory.

Biola's block was critical to getting each set victory. The Eagles ended with eight blocks with each coming at a crucial point in the set. Biola's middle blockers and Brinley Beresford were making every Dixie attack a struggle.

"Bekah, Brinley and Sierra were phenomenal on the block. That was key for us," said Seltzer.

Biola earned 48 of their 75 points via kills and hit .250 for the match. The blocking and back row held Dixie State to .187 and forced 17 attack errors.

Three Eagles had double-digit kills, led by Sabrina Winslow (12),  Karly Dantuma (10) and Sierra Bauder (10).

One of the most impressive aspects of the evening was how clean the Eagles were at the service line. After having double-digit service errors at California Baptist last week BU ended up with six aces to just three errors tonight.

"I like how well we've overcome adversity and how well we've played on the road this year," said Seltzer. "I think that's a testament to our senior leadership. That was just a great team win at a tough place on the road."

Biola improved to 15-6 (9-4 PacWest) with the victory and closes out their year with an 8-4 regular season road record. They play their final eight matches of the year at home, beginning with a Halloween night matchup against Life Pacific. Dixie State falls to 9-12 (7-6 PacWest).
