Defensive Cold Front Stalls Eagles

Biola remains the third place team in the GSAC at 6-2.

Box Score COSTA MESA, Calif. --- No. 5 Vanguard made it tough for No. 21 Biola to ignite the offense on Tuesday in Costa Mesa. With only one double-digit scorer, the Eagles fell 35-71.

Despite the loss, the 15-5 Eagles still have their feet firmly planted in third place in the Golden State Athletic Conference at 6-2. Remaining in that position at the end of the season would result in the Eagles hosting the No. 6 seed in the GSAC tournament quarterfinals at The Master's University.

"Hats off to Vanguard for playing like a championship caliber team tonight, said Head Coach Alan Nakamura. "As a team we'll stick together and back back to work after this; I believe in our team's character and player leadership.

The Lions improved to 7-0 in their conference schedule by holding Biola to 12 points or less in all four quarter and .280 percent shooting. For the first time in a long time, the Eagles also had the few number of made three-pointers in the game: six compared to the Lions' seven.

Vanguard has three players score in double digits with star forward Claire Lamunu posting a double-double: 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Annie Park led the team with 10 points and Joclyn Kirton shot 3-of-4 from the field to maintain the second best field goal percentage in the nation at .602.

Biola returns to Chase Gym for another GSAC game Saturday against Arizona Christian at 2:00 p.m. The Eagles currently have a nine game winning streak at home and earned a 79-47 victory over ACU on Jan. 17.
