COSTA MESA, Calif. --- It's a big Tuesday night in Golden State Athletic Conference basketball as there will be a pair of ranked matchups as Biola faces Vanguard in men and women's basketball. The night begins inside of "The PIT" when the women's game tips off at 5:30 p.m.
The women's game is sure to be a good one as it features the No. 5 Vanguard Lions (18-1, 6-0 GSAC), who have won 14-straight games, and the No. 21 Biola Eagles (15-4, 6-1 GSAC), who begin the day just a half-game back from the Lions in the conference standings. The Lions and Eagles are the top two scoring offenses in the GSAC coming into play today. Vanguard leads the conference and is eighth in the nation with 81.9 points-per-game. The Eagles are in second place, but there's a bit of a gap as they average just over 73 points-per-game this year.
The biggest matchup to watch in tonight's ballgame will be between Claire Lamunu and
Joclyn Kirton. Lamunu has been the runaway choice for GSAC Player of the Year early on this season and should find herself in conversations for national player of the year. She's currently leading the nation in points (24.1) and rebounding (13.5). Kirton does not find herself quite as high up in the national rankings, but that is because she's got two potential All-American players in her back court to share the scoring with. What's making Kirton's season so special so far is how efficient her scoring has been. She's currently ranked second in the nation in field goal percentage (.599) through 19 games.

Following the top-25 matchup in the women's game is another huge matchup on the men's side. The No. 7 Eagles (19-2, 5-2 GSAC) look for their fifth win in a row as they travel to the Lions (14-6, 3-3 GSAC), who received votes in the last NAIA Men's Basketball Top-25 Poll.
The Lions come into the matchup hungry for a victory as they've lost each of their last two outings. They went 0-2 last week in road matchups at Hope International and The Master's University.
Tonight's matchup is not likely to be a high scoring affair as it features two of the top three defenses in the conference. Biola is allowing its opponents 59.7 points-per-game this season and the Lions are giving up just 68.3ppg. The Eagles and Hope International are No. 1 and 2 in scoring defense in the GSAC this year, and as you can see it is a pretty big difference between them and the rest of the schools.
Biola key to success will be its ability to shut down Zach Allmon this evening. Allmon is a 6-foot-9-inch senior forward for the Lions. He leads the team in scoring this season (13.4ppg) and is in the top-20 in the nation in field goal percentage. The Eagles have had to play without
Jeff Gonzalez for each of their last two outings, which gives them just a bit less scoring inside and makes it all the more important to do what they can to keep Allmon from piling in the points.
Last year's meeting at The PIT was a memorable one. The Eagles won 70-69 after overcoming an 18-point second half deficit to win the game on a
Terrell Funches jumper with eight seconds left in the game.
