LONG BEACH, Calif.—Nic Nelson of Wilson High School in Long Beach has decided that he would like to continue his track and field career close to home. He is committed to Biola and will compete with Head Coach Sean Henning and the Eagles this coming year.
 
Nelson competes in the 800-meter and the mile. He has three years of varsity experience and helped his track program gain some new notoriety and prominence during his time there, showing that they were a force to be reckoned with. He proved himself to be a leader in high school as he was named team captain of his cross country team and plans to bring that same leadership to Biola.
 
"I really enjoyed my first conversation with Nic," said Henning. "I could tell that he was coming to Biola for the right reasons. He loves the Lord and really wants to be in a strong Christian environment. I was really impressed with his running style. He is a determined runner who will fight until the very end, and that's just the type of runner we want in our distance program. Look for big things from Nic over the next few years."
 
In his time at Wilson High School, Nelson showed his potential early being named the most promising runner of 2013. He continued to progress in 2014 when he was named the most outstanding runner. Nelson showed his leadership off of the track as well earning the Loyalty award and the Champion of Character award.
 
"My church leaders pointed me in the direction of Biola and I have visited many times while going to Singspo, Turn Your Campus and visiting friends who go there currently," said Nelson. "I have seen the culture that I have already grow to love. I want to grow in my relationship with Christ and gain friends that will benefit me in my walk with him."
 
Nelson led his team to the league championship against rival school Long Beach Poly, but fell short in a valiant effort. His team proved that they could compete with anyone and will give it their all every time. In 2016 they sent more runners to the CIF prelims than any other school in their district.
 
He is a leader in the classroom as well earning him self and spot on the high honor roll and took all honors classes as well as AP classes. He is currently undecided on his major when he arrives to Biola.
