Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- On another overcast morning, Biola Baseball sees its six game win streak snapped with a 7-5 loss in the final game of a three game series against the San Diego Christian Hawks.
Â
The game was a back and forth tug of war, with four lead changes spread throughout the middle innings. But the Hawks showed throughout the game that they would not go away quietly in a sweep.
Â
San Diego Christian had a batter reach safely in all nine innings and forced the Eagles' starter
Gabe Ihrig to exit after a three run second inning.
Â
From the third through the seventh it seemed like the Eagles might steal this one, as
Buddy Brouwer steadied the Eagles' ship while a four-run inning from the offense in the third got Biola its first lead of the game.
Â
However, Hawks' starter Jeremiah Wiley did just enough in six innings of work to keep Biola within striking distance and allow his batters to chip away at the Eagle relievers. Wiley did not factor in the decision, but went six innings and struck out four while surrendering five runs.
Â
The Eagles did all of their damage today without the benefit of an extra base hit, using RBI singles from four different hitters to take a lead into the top of the eighth.
Â
With only a one-run lead going into the eighth, Biola turned to
Daniel Jang to resume his customary late-inning role. But Jang showed fatigue after throwing four innings on Friday and allowed three runs before the Eagles got their first out in the inning.
Â
Doubles from Patrick Vizcaino and Steven Pico sealed the deal for the Hawks as two runs was all reliever Mark Young needed to salvage one game in the series for his team.
Â
The Hawks improve to 11-13 in Golden State Athletic Conference play and 19-16 overall. Biola remains in a playoff position in the GSAC with a 12-9 mark and is now 23-19 this season. The Eagles return to action this coming Tuesday afternoon against the Bethesda Flames for a game at the MLB Urban Youth Academy in Compton. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m.Â
