Biola Women's Tennis earns a 5-1 victory over Hope International during day one of the GSAC Tournament.

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. --- Biola Women's Tennis opened the 2016 Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament on a high note as it ended its first round match against Hope International early by securing a 5-1 win just three singles matches in.

The Eagles won all three doubles matches to set themselves up well in the tournament setup where the teams play only until one team can secure five match wins.

"I was so proud of all our players. All of them adjusted there games and fought to the end of the match," said Head Coach Dee Henry.

The three doubles matches finished in close succession as Biola worked an 8-0 win at No. 1, 8-5 win at No. 2 and 8-4 win at No. 3. Madeline Heer and Kelsey Post had the most dominant performance of the morning as they held their opponents to a goose egg.

With just two more match wins needed to secure a berth into the GSAC Tournament semifinals the Eagles leaned on two of their most consistent performers from all season long, Heer and Post.

After HIU managed to steal a win at No. 2 singles, which started early as the other matches were still warming up, it was a race to see who could attain wins in the next few matches to finish up and the answer was Biola.

Heer finished second in singles play as she managed a 6-0; 6-3 win in the No. 1 position to lock down Biola's fourth victory of the match.

Then, just minutes later, Post clinched the match for the Eagles after dominating both of her sets at No. 4. She also earned a 6-0; 6-3 victory to seal the deal and ensure Biola would move on to face Westmont at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

When the match ended at 5-1 Bailey McGeough and Brooke Sanford were both also leading their matches at No. 5 and No. 3.

"How they played is so much more important than the score," said Henry. "It is those lessons learned that will be ingrained in them and so much more valuable later in life."
